He said, 51‘Say to the Israelites, “You will cross over the River Jordan to Canaan. 52Then you must send out all the people who live in that country in front of you. You must not let any of those people stay in the country. And you must destroy all their stones in the shape of people. And you must destroy all the idols that they have made from metal. And you must destroy all their high places for worship. 53And you must get power over the country and you must live in it. Do that because I have given the country to you. I have given it to you so that you can live it. 54And you must use lots to give the land to your clans. You must give more land to the larger clans and you must give less land to the smaller clans. Whatever land somebody gets as a result of the lots, that will be his land. Each of your ancestors‘tribes will get its own land.

55If any Canaanites remain in the country, they will be a problem to the Israelites. 56And I will do to you what I wanted to do to them.”’
